Temporary Shelter in Vancouver
Description
NO FIXED ABODE NO FIXED ADDRESS TEMPORARY SHELTERS
"No Fixed Abode" is a photographic series of images taken in Vancouver, Canada. It reveals a hidden city of temporary shelters where the homeless live and store all their worldly possessions. Words, written on walls and any available nearby surface, express these individuals’ feelings about their life — asserting their existence as citizens, rather than invisible ghosts haunting the streets and back alleys. Over the past few years, I have photographed these tiny homes, marvelling at the creativity and ingenuity that goes into their construction: the adept use of ropes and castaway materials that create a structure for sleeping, cooking and living. When dismantled, the materials morph into transportation holding everything the person holds dear.
